It's ALL about the crayons!!

The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane DeRolf

It's time for a book review! This little gem of a book jumped out at me a couple of years ago when I was browsing the children's book section of Barnes and Noble (which I do quite frequently). I originally bought this book because I thought it was cute. But oh, how this book has become so much more to me. As I read through it and actually studied the themes, I fell more in love with this little book. It's about a box of crayons who do not get along with one another, until one day, a little girl purchases this box of crayons. She shows them how each crayon plays an important part in making a beautiful picture they all can be a part of and be proud of. I related this story to my classroom and how each student plays an important part in the class and that no two students are a like, and that's a GOOD thing. The reason being that together we complete our class with our gifts and personalities to create a beautiful "picture" in our classroom.

In my next blog, I'll share how I've actually used this book and its theme into my entire class theme for the entire year, from the first day until the last day. So stay tuned! And while you wait, CHECK OUT THIS BOOK!
